At the 25th anniversary of the Bosman ruling of 1995, FIFPRO invited us to find a way to honour this defining moment.
We created a gallery – real and virtual – that connects footballs pioneering activists. We hope that their collective stories inspire other athletes to keep improving the rights of players.
The gallery features a series of compelling stories and background information on activist like Zahir Belounis, The 99ers, the Afghanistan Women’s Team, Jimmy Hill, George Eastham and Jean-Marc Bosman.

We want to showcase to the world how the collectivism and the struggle of the players to persevere against these injustices created freedom for the players. And created a more democratic football environment in which the human rights of players are respected the same way we expect that for everybody else in society.
It’s not just these people. It’s what they represent and how they can inspire us to move forward. Sharing their stories on social media reminded us how we all are part of a larger story. And that it is always worthwhile to fight for something bigger than you.
