Water Authority Amstel, Gooi and Vecht wanted to be visible during SAIL with a meaningful message about clean water. But how do you tell a story about water quality to hundreds of thousands of visitors who mainly come for beautiful ships and celebration? The water authority was looking for a message that would stick. We distilled it down to one simple line:

Water Authority Amstel, Gooi and Vecht wanted to be visible during SAIL with a meaningful message about clean water. But how do you tell a story about water quality to hundreds of thousands of visitors who mainly come for beautiful ships and celebration? The water authority was looking for a message that would stick. We distilled it down to one simple line:
What doesn’t go in, we don’t have to take out.
From this need, the Toilet Boat was created: a temporary floating service designed to support boaters and to make water quality tangible in a direct, everyday way. A functioning toilet on the Amstel, right where it is needed most. Hosted by Toos and Beb, with Captain Jan navigating the vessel through SAIL, the boat offered a practical solution to a very real problem. Hundreds of visitors stepped on board. By meeting people at the exact moment of need, the subject of water quality stopped being abstract and became personal.

Additionally, we created the website where you could see the Toilet Boat’s live location. Convenient you knew exactly where you could leave your message. But more importantly: a smart way to increase reach and let the activation live online as well.
The media picked it up nicely too; they were interested in the substantive message and equally charmed by the playful action.
